William “Bill” Lawrence Smoot

William “Bill” Lawrence Smoot age 87 of Harrison passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, July 7, 2023. William was born April 3, 1936, in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of Charles and Marion (Bills) Smoot. Mr. Smoot honorably served his country in the United States Army. On November 25, 1965, in Clarkston, Michigan, William was united in marriage to Ms. Jeanette Williams. After forty-six years of marriage, Mrs. Smoot preceded Bill in death on October 16, 2012.
Bill had resided in Harrison since 1995, moving from Pontiac. Bill retired from Lake Orion Schools after twenty-four years of faithful service as a custodian. Mr. Smoot was a member of the American Legion Post 404 of Harrison. He enjoyed attending functions at the Harrison Senior Center and traveling with his family. Bill always spoke to his family of how he loved serving his country in the United States Army.
Surviving Mr. Smoot are his four loving children: Michael Gossett and wife Cheryl of Midland, Michigan, Bill Gossett and Tina Garrow of Beaverton, Michigan, Cindy Crouch and husband Gordon of Harrison and Larry Smoot also of Harrison, eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and another arriving soon, two nieces: Sharon and Dawn, two nephews: Robert and Doug, plus many other extended family members and friends. Bill was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Donna Grayhek and four brothers: Evan Smoot, Reed Smoot, Lloyd Smoot, and Warren Smoot. 
Celebration of Life services and military honors for Mr. Smoot will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. from Trinity Christian Life Center, 236 East Park Street, Harrison with Pastor Jeff Brown officiating. Family and friends are encouraged to gather on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial gifts in memory of Mr. Smoot may be considered to the Smoot Family.
