Martin Lopez
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of Martin Lopez, who was born on November 16, 1957, in Los Angeles, California, and passed away on July 29, 2026. Martin leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Martin was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Cheryl “Farmer” Lopez, whose unwavering love and partnership were the foundation of a lifetime of cherished memories.
A skilled welder by trade, Martin took great pride in his craftsmanship and the work of his hands. In the late 1990s, he made Harrison, Michigan his home. Shortly after relocating, Martin began what would become a 22-year career with Waste Management, where he built lasting friendships, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and integrity.
Martin leaves behind his children, Cierra Lopez, Jennifer Fernandez, and James Mussly, who will forever carry his love, guidance, and countless life lessons in their hearts.
He is also survived by his siblings: Juan Lopez; Lilia "Baby" Acevez; Lupe Lopez Portillo (Bob "Smokey"); Rene Lopez (Kathy); Norma Cocio; and Monica Lopez. He shared an especially close bond with his niece, Jessica Lopez, whom he loved and regarded as a sister. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Paul Dickerson and Roy Dickerson (Jeanette), along with his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his beloved aunts and uncles, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.
Martin was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Manuel and Ermila Lopez; his sister-in-law, Irene Lopez; his brothers-in-law, Gerry Acevez and Frank Cocio; and his parents-in-law, William and Helen Dickerson.
Martin had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Whether gathered around the dinner table, spending time with friends, or sharing one of his unforgettable stories, he had a way of making everyone feel welcome. He loved cooking for family and friends, and no gathering felt complete without one of his meals and plenty of laughter. His collection of hot sauces was legendary, and he was always eager to introduce someone to a new favorite dish.
Above all, Martin will be remembered for his generous heart, infectious sense of humor, love of music and the genuine joy he found in spending time with the people he loved. His stories—often told with perfect timing and plenty of laughter—will continue to be shared for years to come. His love for family, loyalty to friends, and kind spirit leave a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be entrusted to Cheryl Lopez.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor Martin's memory, share stories, and celebrate a life well lived.
