Mark Mitchell Meyer passed away on February 1, 2023 at the Ball Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan after a stoic but valiant battle against Pancreatic Cancer.

Mark was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to Madonna Jean Allen and John (Ace) F. Meyer on December 20, 1972.

Mark grew up in Clare near the Gariglio farm where we had many fun times and great memories. He graduated from Clare High school in 1991. He participated in football and downhill skiing.

Mark is a graduate of Lake Superior State University with a Bachelor Degree in Sociology.  Mark spent the first 18 years of his professional career at Chippewa-Luce-Mackinac Community Action Agency working at various jobs in Senior Services.  For many of those years, Mark also worked for the Sault Evening News as Manager of the Buyers Guide.  In 2019, Mark joined War Memorial Hospital/My Michigan Health-Sault.  He enjoyed working with customers and co-workers in both Food and Nutrition and Patient Financial Services.  He was very proud to be part of the War Memorial Hospital/My Michigan Health-Sault family. He especially appreciated the support he received from all co-workers prior and during his illness.

Mark was a very giving person, even at times of his own possessions or personal time, for anyone in need.  Anyone who knew Mark experienced his generosity.  His ready smile and wittiness made anyone in his presence chuckle.  He was humble and quiet but had lasting impact on others-he was always thinking of others.  Mark was a lover of all animals but most dear to his heart was his dog, Jackie.  He was a sports enthusiast; following University of Michigan Football, Michigan State Men’s Basketball and Central Michigan University.  The most anticipated date all year for Mark was opening day for college football season.   He also enjoyed the sporting events of his Maloney extended family.  His quiet but observant presence and insertion of his famous “one-liner’s” at Maloney family events will be enormously missed.

Mark is survived by his love and life partner Alice A. Maloney of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; his sisters Lori Meyer-Gaylord, Michigan and Shannon Spate-Rising Star, Texas;  his brothers Brian Spate and Mike Spate; his nephews/nieces: Novi Price-Midland, Michigan; Sarah Spate-Kurnava(Eric) and their children Mason, Liam, Owen, Harper-Ely, Minnesota; Dennis Spillman(Alisha) and their children Charles, Dennis and Barrett-Rising Star, Texas; Joseph Spillman(Monica) and their children Weston and Oliver-Arlington, Texas; his Uncle Ray (Pat) Faber-Mecosta, Michigan and Aunt Barbara Louiselle-Paris, Michigan; Mary Joan Maloney-McBain, Michigan; Clara(Dennis) James-Richmond, Michigan; Herb (June) Maloney-Rudyard, Michigan, Donald (Heidi) Maloney- Freeland, Michigan; Noreen (Leon) Zastrow-Hemlock, Michigan; Kaitlin (Steven) Juengel and their children Oliver, Elise, Mae and Truitt-Lake Orion, Michigan; Michael (Cassie) James-Richmond, Michigan; Brenna James-Royal Oak, Michigan; Kathleen (Jordan) Anderson-Suttons Bay, Michigan; Noreen (Matthew) Maloney-Arlington, VA; Erin Maloney-Saginaw, Michigan; Joseph Maloney-Freeland, Michigan; Jillian Maloney-Freeland, Michigan, Liam Zastrow-Hemlock, Michigan, Luke Zastrow-Hemlock, Michigan, Landon Zastrow-Hemlock, Michigan.

Mark was preceded in death by his father John (Ace) F. Meyer, mother Madonna J. Meyer, his Uncle Ronald and Aunt Catherine (Katie) Cairns and Patrick C. Maloney.
