Larry Laverne Petty

Larry Laverne Petty, 80, passed away peacefully at his home on October 11 with his son Brian at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Despite the pain, Larry faced his challenges every day with a smile, resilience and stayed strong until the very end.

Larry was born March 31, 1943, in Clarkston, MI, the son of Harvey Petty Jr. and Florence Lucille (Baker) Petty. Mr. Petty was united in marriage and the husband to Betty Petty (Pennington). They shared 40 years together.

Larry retired from General Motors Corporation as a Dyno Tech after 30 years of service. In 1993, Larry relocated to Harrison, moving from Waterford. Mr. Petty was involved in the Industrial Arts Club during his time at Clarkston High School. He enjoyed going to car shows, restoring hot rods, hunting, and always having something to work on. He spent many hours in the garage working on various projects: there’s nothing that this man couldn’t do.

He will always be remembered for being kind, helpful, loving, passionate, hardworking, wise, and having a way with animals and children. His pleasant and witty personality was contagious to everyone he met, effortlessly making an immediate impact on every soul he came across.

Surviving Larry is his wife, Betty Petty, children - Brian Petty, Phil Petty, Larry (Wendy) Dugan, Kathy Burleson, Roxie (Dale) Hawks, two sisters; Lucille Woodard and Valerie Tippett, grandchildren, Donn Davis, Euri Garcia, Alissa Roth, Ferris Dugan, Danielle Hawks, Alec Dugan, Hannah Kloc, Zachary Hawks, Ian Klaus and Shaun Klaus, Elizabeth, great-grandchildren Isabelle, Rhiannon, Haidynn, Lynley, Peyton, Lawrence, Audrey, and beloved pet Jack. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Lynn Petty.

Funeral services honoring Larry Petty will take place at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel & Cremation Service, 165 West Oak Street, Harrison, MI. 48625.

Relatives and friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel & Cremation Service prior to the memorial service at 12:00 PM. The burial will take place at 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Riverside Cemetery, 124 North Chapel Drive Mount Pleasant, MI. 48858.
