Evelyn I. (Malcomnson) Breen, age 98 of Clare, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Pioneer Golden Estates Assisted Living Facility of Clare.  On February 21, 1923, Evelyn was born one of five children to Donald and Lela (Woods) Malcomnson on their family farm in Harrison, MI.

She was united in marriage to Oliver “Herb” Breen on March 5, 1942, in San Francisco, CA., and together the couple enjoyed seventy-one and a half years of marriage together until Herb’s passing in October of 2013.  Evelyn always managed to keep busy.  Her working years were spent in three equal tenures between her roles as a store clerk at Semig’s Meat Market where she worked with her family, Guys and Dolls Photography where she helped as a film developer, and Allen’s Department Store where she helped as a retail clerk—and fueled some of her passion for shopping.  Evelyn was an Eastern Stars member and she also loved to get together with friends to play Bridge.  Other than her first love for shopping, Evelyn also loved bowling, golfing, tending to her home, and collecting all things lighthouse related.

Evelyn is survived by her sons Phillip (Candice) of Fruitport and Stanley "Skip" (Midge) of Clare, 5 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.  Other survivors include her sister-in-law Elaine Malcomnson and brother-in-law Al Pittman.  Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Herb Breen, her parents Donald and Lela Malcomnson, and her siblings Donald (Rosie) Malcomnson, Jr., Leon Malcomnson, Clara (Glenn) Hodges, and Marion Pittmann.

A funeral service in honor of Evelyn will take place on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with Pastors Herb and Ines Bowers officiating.  Burial will follow in Harrison’s Maple Grove Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the Breen family at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 23rd from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Memorial contributions in honor of Evelyn may be directed to the First Foundation (Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types), 2616 N. Broad Street, Colmar, PA 18915. The Breen family would like to express their huge gratitude to the entire staff of Pioneer Golden Estates, Renee Doherty, and MidMichigan Homecare & Hospice for the gentle love, compassion, and care given to Evelyn in her final months.  For those unable to attend services, on-line condolences may be made at www.stephenson-wyman.com
