Dewey Viars

Dewey Viars, age 95, of Harrison passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023, at MyMichigan Hospital in Clare. Per Dewey's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Dewey was born on August 6, 1928, in Whitewood, Virginia, son of Robert and Carrie (Mullins) Viers. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Dewey married the love of his life, Joye Lavon Gebhart on January 18, 1958, in Ohio.

Dewey owned and operated Dewey Viars Construction, which was based out of Ohio, Michigan, and Florida many years before he and Joye retired to Harrison. Dewey loved driving, especially enjoyed the roads rolling slow. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the hunting season every year. He didn't know a stranger, if Dewey met you, you instantly became a dear friend.

Dewey is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joye Viars; children, Clifford Dewey Viars, Kimberly Elaine (Jim: Passmore, and Robin Rene' Viars (Ricky) Helsel; nine grandchildren; Heather, Michelle,Wade,Shawn, DJ, Kevin, Rachel,Cody and Travis. Many great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen Viers; brother, Jesse Viers; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dewey was preceded in death by his son, Dewey Viars, Jr.; parents; and siblings, Irene Ward, Louis Viers, Raymond Viars, Leck Viers, Francis Viers.
