Beverly “Bev” J. Trowbridge of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home in Traverse City, Michigan on January 22, 2024, at age 95 ½ years old.
Beverly was born July 3, 1928, at Saginaw County Hospital, Saginaw Michigan and became the daughter of Ernest E. Merrill and Florence (Sibley) Merrill one year later when she was adopted by her now loving parents. They made their home in the Mount Pleasant and Saginaw area until Beverly moved to Harrison, Michigan in 1944. Beverly graduated from Harrison Community School in 1946 and married her high school sweetheart Ira Wayne Trowbridge in Harrison on August 15, 1948. They then made their home on the farm where they raised a family for many years.
Her career in banking began in 1961 with Harrison State Savings Bank and retired in 1989 as a mortgage loan officer with First of America Bank in Harrison. Beverly was a faithful and active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Harrison for over seventy years. One of her favorite hymns was, It Is Well With My Soul. She enjoyed quilting, listening to audio tapes, reading, and sightseeing. One of those sightseeing trips she and her husband Wayne, drove to Vancouver, Canada in their motor home and traveled by ship the rest of the way to Alaska.
Beverly Trowbridge will be remembered by her friends and family as an amazing and classy lady, with a heart of gold, an infectious smile and laugh, twinkling eyes, and a great sense of humor. During her more than two years as a resident of The Village at Bay Ridge senior independent living facility, she enjoyed making new friends, watching out her apartment window at the ducks flying by on their way to the nearby pond, and dancing a bit as she entered the dining room for social hour. Over the years, some of her favorite hobbies were making cookies and doing puzzles.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne and a son, Bruce. Bruce was a dedicated volunteer fireman in Harrison and was remembered at his funeral by the firemen crew members with a fire truck drive-by.
Survivors include a loving daughter, Debra Trowbridge of Traverse City; devoted grandsons Jason Trowbridge of Harrison and Jamie Trowbridge, also of Harrison (sons of Bruce Trowbridge). After years of family reunions including nieces and nephews, the family held one last reunion at the farm home in Harrison this past summer to celebrate Beverly’s 95th birthday.
Celebration of Life services honoring Beverly will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024, at First Congregational UCC, 211 West Spruce Street, Harrison, Michigan with Pastor Vaughn Peterson officiating. A time of gathering will take place prior to the service from 9:30 AM until the service at 11:00. Private interment services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrison.
