Harrison

Political platform statement

Why I am running for this office: I have been a resident of Hayes Township or the City of Harrison for 20+ years. I grew up in Harrison, went to Michigan State University to become a teacher, and then returned to Harrison where I have been working full time as a middle school social studies teacher and coach for the last six years. This summer, I married the love of my life, Therese, and we have been enjoying our life in Harrison together. Since I returned to Harrison as an adult, I have been actively participating in local government by visiting and contributing to government meetings ranging from Hayes Township, Harrison School Board, City of Harrison, and the Clare County Board of Commissioners. I believe the role of local government is to efficiently handle budgets, address local issues, and have representatives that communicate with residents. I firmly believe in addressing problems directly and without sugar coating things. I believe in honest and public discussion is owed to the people being represented. I am the youngest candidate running for city council and one of the very few Millennials running for public office in Clare County. As a young and fully employed person, my goal is to make Harrison a destination for more young and employed people and families. I am going to work on an agenda that will promote and sustain Harrison for the next 50 years. As a council member and resident, I will work to instill community pride, togetherness, and a commitment to making Harrison the best small town in Michigan. I hope to have your vote on November 3rd.
