HHS Class of 1992

HARRISON – Harrison High School’s annual Alumni Coffee Hour was held Saturday, May 23 at the high school, and was hosted by Mick Haley, Anna Sharp and me. Since, 1901 this yearly event sees Harrison graduates meet with one another to let them catch up and in years past to introduce the entire class of new graduates.

After recitation of the “Pledge of Allegiance,” Haley introduced Zachary Matthews, the 2026 Alumni Charles Amble Scholarship award winner who will be attending Mid Michigan College to study automotive before he moves on to a high-performance automotive college.

Wayne Bucholz was the Wall of Fame honorees this year and his family was in attendance to accept the award on his behalf. Bucholz was a Harrison grad from the class of 1951 and passed away earlier this year. He is a familiar figure to most of the graduates in attendance. He spent his career as an educator as a principal and superintendent, coach, athletic director, basketball official, and even bus driver. His career was split between the Harrison Schools and several districts in the Upper Peninsula.

Bucholz was selected as Michigan’s most outstanding Elementary Principal in 1973, and President of the Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA) from 1992-1993. In 40 years, he never missed a day of work due to illness.

Roll call was taken and 31 alumni were in attendance The most mature graduate at this event was Lillian (Hoard) Leposky who graduated in 1948. Lillian took home a beautiful mixed bucket of flowers. Her son Michael Leposky scored a gas card as the graduate who traveled the furthest to attend; he lives in Christmas, Michigan.

More graduates from Harrison are always welcome to come to this yearly event which is held on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend beginning at 6 p.m.
