Weather conditions have been hit and miss so far this spring, that obviously has an impact on spring sports, the Farwell golf team included. They’ll look to shrug the frigid conditions off though, as they practice hard to get ready for the upcoming season.

“Once again, this season the weather is a factor in getting a grip on what we are going to be able to accomplish this year,” head coach Jim Lard said. “My hopes for the first few meets will be to get our team figured out. With the young team we have and losing a couple of our seasoned golfers to the baseball team we will need to get our scoring team figured out.”

Returning to the team will be senior Brayden Travis and sophomores Parker Tatara and Jamison Santure.

The rest of the team are newcomers senior Spencer Brown, junior Hunter Miller and freshmen Cal Mogg and Cooper Blodget.

“Our one and only senior Brayden Travis will be our team leader this season,” Lard said. “He is a very good golfer and has worked very hard to improve his game. Early on this season he has looked like he will be a good number one golfer for us. Team goals will always be to do the best we can each and every time out, along with having fun. Golf is a difficult sport to master, and most people never master it completely, so doing the best you can every time out and enjoying the time on the course is a win in my book.”

Lard had to miss some time from the team during their early practices, but a former coach helped assist during his time off. That helped the program from missing key early developmental time.

“I do feel a little behind this year because I'm just finishing up recovering from surgery,” he said. “We had the expertise of our last golf coach Hugh Lewis who filled in for me for the first two weeks of the season. This allowed the men to practice until I got back. With as tough a conference as the Jack Pine is, it was a blessing to have Hugh help get the men started.”
