Clare County Sheriff John S. Wilson is excited to announce that he will seek his fifth term as your Clare County Sheriff.
Sheriff Wilson is a lifelong resident of Clare County. His family moved to Harrison back in the 1930s with his grandfather, Dr. Earl C. Wilson, opening up a family practice. Sheriff Wilson’s parents, Malcolm and Shirley Wilson, made their home here raising all five of their children.
Sheriff Wilson started in law enforcement back when he was in the eighth grade when he joined the Explorer Program under then Sheriff Gus Aleck. At age 21, he joined the Clare County Sheriff Reserve unit donating hundreds of hours while working a full-time job at a local grocery store. Wilson was hired in 1989 working part time until going through the Delta Police Academy that fall.
Sheriff Wilson has held the following positions over his career with Clare County: Corrections Officer, Dispatcher, Deputy Sheriff, Road Patrol Sergeant, School Liaison Officer, Rescue/Recovery Diver, K-9 Handler, Emergency Response Team Member, SCBA Visual Tank Inspector, Firearms Instructor, Concealed Pistol License Instructor, Public Information Officer, and IT Administrator. Sheriff Wilson has written and assisted in writing grants bringing hundreds of thousands of grant dollars to Clare County over the years.
Sheriff Wilson believes through continued education and training that we can maintain a highly professional agency to better serve the citizens of Clare County. We will strive to attract local people to come into this profession in order to maintain our level of service to this great county.
