Sheriff Department Welcomes New K-9 Officer

Sheriff Wilson would like to introduce Deputy Zachary Noble’s new partner K-9 Lux. Since Noble was a child, he aspired to be a K-9 handler. Dreams come true when you work hard and put your mind to it. In October 2022, Noble was offered a spot on the K-9 team at the Clare County Sheriff's Office.

Noble served five years in the U.S. Navy (2015-2020) onboard submarines as a Machinist Mate 2^nd Class, which allowed him to use his G.I. Bill to pay for the training.

In February of this year, Noble attended a six-week training course in Zuni, Virginia, at American K-9 Interdiction Academy. The training was rigorous with his new partner Lux. On the first training day, the deputy reviewed paperwork and PowerPoints. The second day is when Noble met his K-9 partner.

From then on, the bond was unbreakable. Noble knew that Lux would be a great asset to the community of Clare County and a great partner. Week one was spent introducing Lux to different narcotics that he will see on the streets. In week two, Lux continued on narcotics work and was introduced to tracking. Week three training was when Lux was introduced to apprehension of a suspect and finding narcotics inside vehicles. In week four,Lux started to do building searches for narcotics and "bad guys." Week five consisted of training for the final certification. Week six Lux passed his certification with flying colors.

On March 17, Noble and Lux made the journey back to Michigan, where he was able to experience snow for the first time – it was a blast to watch him play in it.

A couple of days after coming home, Lux could check into service for the first time. Since he has become part of the Sheriff's Office, he has assisted in finding drugs in several vehicles, assisted in tracking for fleeing fugitives, and done some article searches. In just a few months in service, Lux has become a valuable asset to the Sheriff's Department.
