Sheriff Announces Receipt of New Patrol/Dive Boat

Posted

This spring, the Clare County Sheriff’s Office received a new boat for patrolling the lakes of Clare County. Emergency Manager Jerry Becker worked to obtain funding for the boat through a Department of Homeland Security Grant. Between the grant and a match from the county, we were able to purchase this new boat. Our current two (2) patrol boats are from the mid-1990s. One of the boats is rotting away and had to be taken out of service. We used to receive funding from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to replace patrol boats, but those funds haven’t been available in several years. The boat is a 2023 Polar Kraft, powered by a 150 horsepower Mercury motor. We will utilize this boat to patrol lakes in Clare County, and it will also be used by our Clare County Dive Team in search and rescue efforts throughout the county. Det./Sgt. Bill Sharp worked with MADS on the design to help with dive team functions. We would like to thank MADS Outdoor Products in Harrison for ordering this boat and equipping it for our needs. We would also like to thank Fussman Designs of Clare for the graphics on the boat, and the Clare County Board of Commissioners for the county’s portion of the funding.
