HARRISON – Harrison Community Schools Superintendent Rick Foote, who will be retiring at the end of this month, was honored for his many years of service with a school open house get-together prior to the June 13 HCS Board of Education meeting. Foote, who has spent his entire 35-year education career serving Harrison’s schools, received a special proclamation from Michigan Speaker of the House Jason Wentworth in recognition of Foote’s dedication and commitment to the students and community over those many years.

In presenting the proclamation, Wentworth said it was an honor and a privilege for him to be there and to present Foote with a State of Michigan Tribute.

“I know you understand the impact he has had on, not just the school and students and staff and faculty, but this entire community of Clare County and Harrison.”

Wentworth went on to address some of the things he had learned about Foote while researching for the tribute, such as the fact that while still at Central Michigan University, he had held the positions of Harrison City Assessor and Parks and Recreation Director. He also noted the many boards on which Foote has served this school for over the years: Harrison Library which he still serves on, United Way and the Harrison Chamber of Commerce.

“So obviously, Rick the school you’ve had the impact on – you’ve had this impact through many years of service – not just here, but in the community. I just want to say thank you for that. Our community will never be the same because of your work; our students obviously have gone on and done great things and will continue to do so.

“We just want to say thank you. It’s a special privilege for us as a community to say thank you, and as a state to recognize you and your service. It is a special privilege for me to acknowledge your contributions to the community and to the state.

“IN SPECIAL TRIBUTE: Therefore, this document is signed and dedicated to honor and commend Rick Foote upon the occasion of his retirement. May he know of our admiration, gratitude and warmest wishes for the future.”

“This is signed by myself, and your State Senator Rick Outman.”

The presentation was completed by a round of applause from the audience and words of appreciation from Foote who, in typical form, then edged away from the spotlight of the moment.
