Offensive barrage leads Clare baseball to wins over St. Louis

Clare baseball had little trouble in their road Jack Pine Conference games at St. Louis on Thursday. The Pioneers had some solid pitching and a whole bunch of offensives in their 22-0 and 16-1 sweep.

In the opener, Brody Allen was given the victory, going two innings of shutout ball and allowing just one hit. Parker Smith tossed three innings and gave up zero runs on two hits on four strikeouts.

The offense had Andrew Moreno get two hits, two RBI, two walks and he scored three runs. Dane Alexander had one hit and two walks, Smith had one hit, Allen had one hit and two walks and adding one single each was Blake Sian (two RBI), Blayn Bigelow (three RBI) and JR Mast (two RBI). In all the Pioneers walked 17 times in the game, including three from Sian.

  1. Sian was the game two winner, as he threw two innings and gave up zero runs on one hit and three strikeouts. Walker Sian threw one inning in relief, giving up one unearned run on one hit and three strikeouts.

Clare drew 16 walks in this one, including four from Alexander, who also scored three runs. Adding base hits in the game were Ethan Kingsbury (one RBI), Smith (one RBI), B. Sian (one RBI), Mast (one RBI) and W. Sian (two runs).

On Tuesday, April 21, Clare played two more Jack Pine games at Farwell, winning game one 14-3, but falling in game two, 7-0.

Moreno was the game one winner, as he went four and one-third innings and allowed three runs, two earned on four hits, four strikeouts and two walks. Trent Francisco had a scoreless relief outing of one and two-thirds, giving up one hit, striking out one and walking three.

Smith had a big game on offense, getting one double, two singles, four RBI and three runs. Bigelow had two hits and one RBI, Allen doubled and with one single each was Francisco, Alexander, Moreno, B. Sian (two RBI), Mast and W. Sian.

Alexander took the loss in game two, though he did go all seven innings, allowing seven runs, five earned on six hits, seven strikeouts and two walks.

The Pioneers had just two hits in the game, one each by Allen and Mast.

Clare hosted Bullock Creek on Tuesday, they are home with Pinconning today (Thursday) and they’ll stay at home on Tuesday to take on Beaverton.
