William “Bill” Harold Bishop

Obituary: William “Bill” Harold Bishop, 84, of Harrison formerly of Midland, died Friday, December 8, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born March 22, 1939, in Bay City, son of Harold and Isabell (Anderson) Bishop. He graduated from T.L. Handy High School in Bay City and continued his education at the University of Michigan, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. While attending UofM, Bill was pledged by Eta Kappa Nu, a National Honorary Fraternity, for being in the top 8th of his class. On August 19, 1961, he married the former Joan Annette Nowland. Together they raised 3 children. He was employed at Dow Corning Corporation for 38 years until his retirement. Bill was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Harrison. He loved golf, woodworking, and any outdoor activity. Bill also loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Joan, daughters, Tracie (Geoff) Brandle and Sheri (Steve) Ensing; grandchildren, Haley (Ryan) Hill and Jordan Ensing; sister-in-law Nancy Bishop. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son Jeffery William Bishop, and brother Gerald Lee Bishop. Funeral services for Bill will take place at 11 am, Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 505 E. Carpenter Street in Midland. Graveside burial will take place at Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler Street on Friday from 4-7 pm, and at the church on Saturday from 10 am until the time of services.
