The Clare County Sheriff Department has issued an update regarding Deputy Shuff as of July 27 .

Deputy Shuff continues to receive treatment at the hospital. Please continue to pray for her and her family. The family and Sheriff’s Office thanks everyone for their continued support.

On 07/25/22 at approximately 8:15 p.m. Clare County Mounted Deputy Nichole Shuff was on patrol and responding to a medical call at the Fairgrounds when she was involved in an accident that caused her to sustain serious head injuries. She was transported to Midland Hospital for treatment. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

HARRISON – Sheriff John Wilson issued a call Tuesday, July 26 on Facebook for people to pray for Deputy Nicole Shuff. A volunteer member of the Mounted Division, Shuff was severely injured the evening of Monday, July 25 while working at the Clare County Fair.

“Pray for HER, her Family and Doctors that GOD guides them, comforts them, and HEALS Nicole. Pray to help us all be strong.” – Sheriff John Wilson

While Mounted Division members rarely if ever get down from their horses, being a physician’s assistant for an orthopedic surgery practice, Shuff instinctively acted to help a fairgoer who had fallen from a ramp and was injured. An eyewitness told the Cleaver that the deputy was in the process of dismounting her horse when it reared and then fell on top of her.

Shuff was transported by Mobile Medical Response ambulance for emergency care of her life-threatening injuries.

No further information was available at  press time.
