Library plans Spring 2023 Move to Surrey House Building

Posted

While supply chain issues, COVID-related setbacks and the requirement of additional architectural drawings have delayed the Surrey House-to-library construction project, it is moving forward to completion.

“We are getting closer every day and we have high hopes for opening sometime in the spring of 2023, if not sooner.” said Nick Loomis. Loomis is the IT director and assistant director for the Harrison District Library and most importantly the Surrey House project manager.

“Work is progressing,” he said. “The concrete entrance is completed on the west side from Second Street. Currently our focus is completing the vestibule entrance and covered porch.”

Two sets of double aluminum doors will be installed.

Inside work scheduled for completion over the winter will include three bathrooms, patron computer areas, the used book sale room, and the lobby.

The community already has benefits of the new library location.

“Among the great features the new location is already providing to the community is expanded public Wi-Fi coverage from funding from ARPA [American Rescue Plan Act] grants. With those grants we’re able to expand coverage and complete the patio. We have a state-of-the-art mobile charging station.” said Loomis.

Already completed areas of the new library include the community room, computer lab, activity room, collection space, and local history and genealogy room.
