Joseph L. Savoy, 78, of Leota, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026. He was born March 14, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland.
A Celebration of Life service for Joseph will be held at Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. with Benjamen Evers officiating. The family will receive friends the day of the service from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A Life Celebration Luncheon and continued time to honor Joseph will follow at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clare County Animal Shelter.

Joseph served honorably in the United States Army and later in the Maryland and Michigan National Guard, earning his airborne wings and retiring after many years of dedicated service from Company F, 425th Infantry (ABN)(LRS). Alongside his military career, he worked as an Ophthalmic Medical Photographer, contributing to important research at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, and the Kresge Eye Institute. He retired in 2007.
After the passing of his wife, Brenda, in 2005, Joseph moved up north to Leota, MI and lived off the grid for more than 15 years, embracing a self-sufficient life rooted in nature, learning, and community. He was well known and deeply valued by those around him for his generosity, knowledge, and willingness to help.
Joseph enjoyed HAM radio communication, music, cooking, photography, and the outdoors, and he was a devoted family man.
He is survived by his seven children: Joanna Savoy-Nichols (Steve), Joseph Savoy, Theresa Savoy, Richard Savoy, Jonathan Savoy (Melissa), Brenda Savoy, and Betty-Jo Meadows; his grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Brenda Savoy of 36 years.
