Jonila “Joan” M. Brooks

               Jonila “Joan” M. Brooks age 87 of Harrison passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at MyMichigan Health-Midland. Jonila was born May 20, 1938, in Houghton Lake, Michigan, the daughter of Inez (White) Calkins and Delbert Calkins. Joan was united in marriage to Mr. Richard W. Brooks on July 24, 1955, in Harrison. Mr. Brooks preceded Joan in death on May 4, 2018.

               Mrs. Brooks had resided in Harrison since 1955, moving from Houghton Lake. Joan was a seamstress for many years, working out of her home. She was an avid bowler, bowling on many leagues throughout the years. She enjoyed assembling jigsaw puzzles and cruising around in her classy Lincoln Continentals.

               Surviving Joan are her four children; Joanne Lynch and husband Tom of Estero, Florida, Richard W. Brooks Jr. and wife Colleen of Ruther Glen, Virginia, Diane Ehle and husband Bob of Harrison and David Brooks and wife Annie also of Harrison, eleven grandchildren; Georgia Mrozinski and husband Marty of Harrison, Stephanie Lynch-Gendregske of Harrison, Robert Brooks and married partner M.J. of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Jeremy Brooks of North Carolina, Colleen Bracken and husband Jeremy of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Richard Brooks III and wife Miranda of Groveland, Florida, Paul Brooks and wife Suzanne of Greenville, North Carolina, Andrew Ehle and companion Nichole of Farwell, Michigan, Elyse Ehle of Harrison, Alexis Brooks of Harrison and Daniel Brooks also of Harrison, twenty three great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, one sister, Linda Sarver and husband Steve of Hastings, Michigan, two brothers; Jerry Calkins and wife Karen of La Selva, California and Bruce Calkins of Los Indios, Texas, Joan’s companion kitty, Daisy of Harrison, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Joan also was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Patricia Calkins and one brother, David Calkins.

               Celebration of Life services honoring Mrs. Brooks was held Monday, October 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. from Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service, 165 West Oak Street, Harrison. A time of gathering took place on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service.
