JAMES “JIM” EMORY ARMSTRONG

James “Jim” Emory Armstrong 77 of Harrison passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland. Jim was born September 23, 1942 in Saginaw, Michigan the son of Paul Eugene Armstrong and Margaret (Daignault) Armstrong. Jim graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Saginaw, Michigan in 1960. On August 3, 1963 in Bay City, Michigan, Mr. Armstrong was united in marriage to Ms. Jeanette K. Ballance. Jim retired from General Motors Corporation after thirty years of working at the Grey Iron Foundry of Saginaw.

                Mr. Armstrong had resided in Harrison since 1991, coming from Saginaw. Jim was the past owner and operator of Shady Oaks Campground of Harrison for over ten years and was a past driver and dispatcher for Clare County Transit of Harrison for many years and bus driver for Harrison Community Schools. Jim was a member of Knights of Columbus 8808 Holy Spirit of Saginaw for several years. He was also a volunteer Fireman and EMT at Thomas Township for many years. Jim enjoyed woodworking, caring for his horse “Prince” and his beloved dog “Buffy”, attending Loon and Saginaw Spirit games and cheering for MSU sporting events.

                Surviving Mr. Armstrong is his loving wife and best friend of fifty-six years, Mrs. Jeanette K. Armstrong of Harrison, two children; Terri Reams and husband Dan of Saginaw Township, Michigan and James D. Armstrong of Coatsville, Pennsylvania, two grandchildren; Hannah Reams and Steven Armstrong, five sisters; Mary Armstrong and husband Harvey Clark of Alma, Michigan, Barb Jaye and husband Mike of Rhode Island, Theresa Hall and husband Jeff of Traverse City, Michigan, Christine Thorp Canton, Michigan and Cathy Goodwine and husband Craig of California, three brothers; Dan Armstrong of Chicago, Illinois, John Armstrong and wife Pat of Hemlock, Michigan and Raymond Armstrong and wife Lorie of Wauseon, Ohio, many nieces, nephews and his beloved pets; Prince his horse and Buffy his dog.  Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Michael, Terrance and Richard Armstrong.

                Funeral services honoring Jim will be held Monday, January 27, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, 165 W. Oak Street, Harrison, with Pastor Ron Callen officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday, January 27, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until time of services. Burial will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from Mount Olivet Cemetery, Saginaw.
