Hayes Township Home Fire Includes Fatality

Posted

HARRISON – The first week of the bright new year was darkened Thursday, Jan. 4 by a fatal mobile home fire at 3571 Ash Road in the Ash Acres Subdivision in Hayes Township. Harrison Fire Chief Chris Damvelt said the fire call came in at 9:36 a.m. and that flames were blazing high when firefighters arrived. He said there had been five people inside, four of whom escaped the residence: three adults and one child. One deceased adult male was discovered inside the home, where he remained as crews awaited arrival of the medical examiner.

Damvelt said the deceased would remain untouched to preserve the scene for the medical examiner who would determine the cause of death. Likewise, the Michigan State Police fire investigator would also examine the scene to determine what caused the fire.

It was noted by Damvelt, after the fact, that all four adults had outstanding warrants and that two of them [the child’s parents] were arrested. The jurisdiction for the third adult opted not to retrieve, leaving that individual at large.
