20th Annual Harrison Street Fair Welcomes Old U.S. 27 Motor Tour

August 21-22 in Harrison Michigan

Posted

Not only is it the 20th Annual Michigan Old U.S. 27 Motor Tour it’s the 20th annual Harrison Street Fair! When the motor tour made Harrison, a day stop on its six-day 13-community historic tour of old U.S. 27 each year, Harrison designed a fun street fair around their visit. Now a two-day street fair is one of the most popular events in the area. Hundreds of cars stop to be admired by locals and visitors as they line Main Street in Harrison on Friday. On Saturday the street fair continues with Jeep the Budd on Main Street, vendors, a children’s carnival, music, beer tent and more!

Over 20 years ago, Craig Parrish pushed to have Old U.S. 27 in Michigan become a designated historic highway. In 2010, it became a reality as the Michigan House of Representatives passed a resolution sponsored by Lansing Representative Joan Bauer to designate the route as a historic highway.

Parrish also wanted to create a Route 66 like experience and created the motor tour route from Coldwater to Cheboygan by rallying communities in its path. According to their website he told the communities, “I will bring the cars and people, you bring the party.” Harrison took that to heart and each year has sought to make the annual event bigger and better.

The official slogan of the car tour is “Back in its day, it was the way” referencing the route in the middle of Michigan that was the only way north before the expressway cut out travel through small towns, including Harrison, on U.S. 27.

The motor tour is open to anyone wanting to join with a low-cost registration fee. Follow the tour on Facebook at Michigan Old US 27 Motor Tour or visit their website at www.old27tour.com
