Hamilton Township Receives Little Free Library

Posted

The Clare Gladwin Great Start Collaborative and Family Coalition have put up their first two Little Free Libraries. The first one went up in Hamilton Township on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The other one was put up at Farwell Methodist Church on Saturday, Oct. 21. We are so thankful for these partnerships to get free books into the hands of families in Clare County.

Each month a core parent from P.A.L's (Parents Are Leaders) Family Coalition will check the boxes and also add new books. Families can download the Little Free Library App on their phones, and it will bring up the closest library to them.

All initiatives and projects of the Great Start Collaborative & Family Coalition work toward achieving the four early childhood outcomes outlined by the Michigan Department of Education's Office of Great Start.

-Children are born healthy

-Children are healthy, thriving, and developmentally on track from birth to third grade

-Children are developmentally ready to succeed in school at the time of school entry

-Children are prepared to succeed in fourth grade and beyond by reading proficiently by the end of the third grade

Some 67.4% of Clare County children and 66.5% of Gladwin County children are not reading proficiently by the end of third grade according to Kids Count Data.
