Some nights you just have to tip your cap to the other team. Friday was unfortunately one of those nights for the Farwell football team, as they were upended by visiting Meridian, 41-6 in Jack Pine Conference play. The Mustangs are 4-0 in league play and are in the driver’s seat to win the JPC Division II.

“Meridian was very athletic and are tough up front,” head coach Travis Waddell said. “We just were not able to match their speed.”

The Mustangs scored the only touchdown of the first quarter, giving them a 7-0 lead after one. That gap swelled to 28-0 by the half and 35-0 entering the fourth.

The Eagles’ lone touchdown came on a 20-yard quarterback keeper from Mason Esterline.

Farwell (3-3 overall, 1-3 JPC) heads to Harrison (5-1, 3-1) on Friday for the Battle Axe rivalry game. The Hornets had a solid 24-14 victory on the road over Pinconning last week, with their only loss coming to Meridian back in week three.

“Harrison has played really well this season,” Waddell said. “They are disciplined and well coached. We need to match that level of discipline and physicality.”
