Getting games in during March is never a guarantee when it comes to spring sports in the area. The Farwell baseball team was able to get some game action in though, when they swept Merrill back on March 25. That gave first year head coach Alan Esterline a head start on what he hopes is another good year for the Eagles.

“I am glad we got in a couple of games before spring break,” he said. “I have an idea of what we need to work on the next couple of weeks.”

The Eagles finished 11-20 last year, which was one of their best seasons in many years. They return a good core from that squad, including seniors Evan Lease (outfield), Gavin Brown (outfield), Dylan Mitchell (pitcher, infield), Asher Yarhouse (pitcher, infield), juniors Cooper Stover (third base, catcher), Chrystian Schuldt )pitcher, outfield), Blake Sholes (catcher), Hunter Edlin (pitcher, shortstop, third base) and sophomore Mason Esterline (pitcher, outfield).

New to the team will be seniors Zane Hanna (infield, outfield, pitcher) and Jacob Schovan (outfield).

“I like this team, they are a great group of young men that are working hard and all get along well,” Esterline said. “I have a great group of seniors that I will need to carry the load for this team. My juniors, I am excited for them to have a breakout season, and I have high hopes for my lone sophomore to make some more strides in his baseball career. Our team goal is to compete at a high level each and every time we step on the field. I have one individual goal for each player.  I want to see each player improve on something each and every day.”

Farwell returns to action on Friday at Breckenridge, they travel to Bullock Creek on Tuesday, and they’ll host St. Louis on Thursday, April 16.

“I think Beaverton and Pinconning are the two at the top of the small side in our league, we will need to work hard each and every day,” Esterline said. “I am excited to work with such a great group of young men, and I can't wait to see what they can accomplish.”
