Donna Jean Wood, age 82, of Harrison passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Donna was born Sunday, January 11, 1942, the eldest daughter of Donald Joseph Wade and Virginia Ruth (Visnaw) Wade. She was united in marriage to Air Force Veteran and American Legion Member, Frederick "Bruce" Wood on July 18, 1959, in Harrison. She supported Bruce as he held the title of City Manager for both St. Ignace and Clare. Donna graduated from Clare High School.
She furthered her education in Cosmetology and earned her certification as a licensed beautician. In addition to raising her family, she was a successful business owner. Donna owned and operated The Golden Comb Salon in St. Johns and later in Clare, where she and Bruce were active members and supporters of the community.
Donna lived in Harrison since 2020, moving back from Seymour, Tennessee and formerly of the following cities in Michigan: Saginaw, St. Johns, St. Ignace, Farwell, and Clare. Donna was a forever fan of Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton. She loved live music and dancing. While living in Tennessee, Donna and Bruce worked at Dollywood where Donna got the chance to meet her hero. When Donna wasn't raising her children or working, she enjoyed creating keepsake crochet and knitted items for her family, friends, and donating to those in need. She also traveled throughout the United States with her husband, whether they were camping or visiting family and friends. Donna loved playing Contract Rummy, Euchre, Scrabble, and Dominos with anyone who dared to compete against her. She cherished relaxing mornings outside with Bruce and had an appreciation for plants and flowers, especially fresh red carnations.
Surviving Donna is her husband of nearly sixty-five years, Bruce Wood of Harrison, her six loving children: Terri Means and husband Greg of Whitehall, Michigan, Fred Wood and wife Sonja of Lake Isabella, Michigan, Tina Raber and Mark of Waterford, Michigan, Traci Coughlin and husband Chris of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jean Leon of Orchard Lake, Michigan and Amanda Brewer and husband Safe also of Orchard Lake. Donna and Bruce were blessed with fourteen grandchildren: Meredith and Rob Borreson, Allen and Stacie Means, Anna and Jon Collins, Alex and Gabby Wood, Mallorie and Chris McBurney, Shellbie and Matt Pape, Blake Raber, Aaron and Hannah Coughlin, Evan Coughlin, Reagan Coughlin, Grace Leon, Daniel Leon, James Leon and Brandon Arguello; and nine great-grandchildren: Taya, Preston, Emily, Natalie, Katherine, Presley, Adelaide, Ronan and Eloise; three sisters: Debbie Lepley and husband Rex, Ruth Ann Kahl, Frances Hawkins and husband Bob, sister-in-law, Carole Wade; plus many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and six of her ten siblings: Sisters Judith Wade, Nancy Martin, Kaylene Knight, Virginia Neisen, Mary Brewer, and brother Joe Wade.
Celebration of Life services honoring Donna will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel, 165 West Oak Street, Harrison with Pastor Neil Milliman officiating.
Family and friends are invited for a time of sharing memories on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. until the time of Donna's service. Guests are encouraged to wear red in honor of Donna and her favorite color. Memorial gifts in memory of Donna may be considered in lieu of flowers to the Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund of Clare County or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
