David Ray Cowell, Jr.

David Ray Cowell Jr., age 70, of Harrison passed away suddenly Monday, February 19, 2024, at MyMichigan Medical Center-Clare. David was born July 2, 1953, in Key West Florida, the son of David Ray Cowell Sr. and Carolyn Yvonne (Hoard) Cowell. David graduated from Harrison Community Schools in 1975. David had resided in Harrison most of his life, with the exception of time spent working out of town and state.

Mr. Cowell was owner and operator of D&L Drywall for many years. He was a professional drywall installer and finisher. David enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting, fishing and deer hunting with his grandchildren, collecting and flipping vehicles, especially “his Cadillacs”, he was passionate about cheering and watching the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings, attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events, and dabbling in metal and iron scrapping. David always considered himself as a graduate of the School of Hard Knocks and a life member of the “High Times Club”.

Surviving David are his six children; Stacy Rena (Cowell) Graves and husband Todd of Farwell, Michigan, Lisa Marie (Cowell) Young and husband Kenneth Young of Dunn, North Carolina, Dana Ray (Cowell) Sharp and husband Devin Sharp of Cadillac, Michigan, Amanda Sue (Cowell) Schroeder and Mauro Cruisinberry of Summerville, South Carolina, Tiffany Rose (Cowell) Strickland and Cade Schafer of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and David Ray Cowell III and wife Rebecca Cowell of Cadillac, Michigan, a bonus child, Regina Shaw of Harrison, twenty-six grandchildren; Joshua Graves, Ashley Graves and Patrick Zale, Jacob Graves, Evan and Brianna Judy, Breanne Judy, Kennth Young Jr., Allen James Davis and wife Kylie Davis, Devinney Sharp, Dominic Davis Sr. and Destiny Meadows, Kendyll Sharp and Brad Goodnoe, Zander Sharp and Jasmine Buck, Gage Davis, Sophia Trowbridge, Clayton Lundy, Natalie Davis, Tyler Erskine and wife Rachael, Caleb “Mo” Erskine, Nicholas Erskine, Cameron Erskine, Becca Rose, Harry Strickland, Jersey Strickland, Tessa Shaw, Lindsey Cowell, Oliver Cowell, Eva Shaw and Kira Pumfrey, seven great-grandchildren; Corlalyn Judy, Dominic Davis Jr., Laine Erskine, Allie Jane Judy, Castiel Davis, Wrenley Erskine and Emmett Davis, three brothers; Michael Cowell of Coleman, Michigan, Christopher Cowell of Harrison and John Cowell and Shannon Marsh also of Harrison, plus numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends he considered his brothers and sisters. Mr. Cowell was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Dakota Erskine, four brothers; Tommy, Nicholas Cowell, Scott Cowell, Dennis Mills and one sister, Susan Bonner.

A McMorial Celebration of Life service honoring David will be held Friday, February 23. 2024 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm from American Legion Post 404, 1267 West M-61, Harrison.
