DAR And LOPA Donate Funds for Area Veterans

Posted

Members of the Michilimacinac Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) along with the very generous support of Lake of The Pines Association (LOPA) recently donated $1,500 to Clare County Veterans Services for veterans’ emergency relief programs.

According to Clare County Veterans Services Director Karl Hauser, the veterans’ emergency relief programs include the Soldier’s Relief Funds, designed to assist local veterans with emergency funding needs, such as propane or car repairs. The donated funds will be used throughout the year as needs arise.

“Veterans who need emergency assistance should apply through our office,” Hauser said. “A committee of local veterans reviews each application and grants or denies them as appropriate.” Hauser added, “It’s important to note these funds are for emergencies, not maintenance issues. Also, the assistance is designed to be a hand up, not a handout.” Veterans who receive assistance are expected to keep up with their bills once the emergent need has been addressed.

Veterans who need emergency assistance should call the Veterans Services office at 989-539-3273.

Anyone who wishes to donate to the relief funds should call the same number for more information.
