Some extra work paid off for the Clare volleyball team last week. Playing at Bullock Creek in Jack Pine Conference action, the Lady Pioneers picked up a four set win, 25-15, 25-15, 24-26 and 25-9, and they might have what they did during practice to thank for the well-played victory.

“We have been putting in extra work in practice, focusing on efficiency, confidence, and taking the game one point at a time,” head coach Shannon Taylor said. “That work showed up on the court as the team played with energy and unity, earning an important victory that boosted both confidence and morale.”

It wasn’t just one or two players that made an impact either; the Lady Pioneers were able to see every player chip in.

“It was truly a team effort, as everyone on the roster was able to get on the floor and make contribution,” Taylor said. “Just as impactful was the energy from the bench; players stayed engaged, positive, and loud, creating momentum throughout the night.”

Syerra Mills had an effective game on the attack, getting 21 kills on top of one block and three digs. Kyley Wyman had a big game too, getting 15 kills, and she also had one block, six digs and three aces, setter Amelia Ryzyk had 51 assists, four kills and two aces, Pamela Allen had five kills and five digs, Aria Smylie added three kills, three blocks, three aces and seven digs and Breanna Campbell tracked down seven digs.

“Middle Marlee Clark and serving specialist Hadley Jones each provided energy from the line, combining for four aces,” Taylor said. “It was a night that showed what the Pioneers are capable of when everyone contributes, stays engaged, and works together.  We are going to keep watering the garden and watching for blooms. The match also provided a chance for both teams to recognize the officials. Bullock Creek and Clare joined together to say thank you, presenting them with a small token of appreciation.”

Clare was at Gladwin on Wednesday, they will head for Beaverton on Monday and they will play again on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at home against Farwell.
