They had two solid pitching performances. Their hitting was pretty good too. The Clare softball team easily handled Gladwin at home on Monday, topping the Lady Flying G’s 8-0 and 18-0.

“It was a good doubleheader win against a good Gladwin team,” head coach Shane Kelly said.

In game one, Kyley Wyman got the win, as she went six innings and gave up zero runs and she struck out 13 batters. Maddison Fritz also came in and pitched a perfect seventh inning.

Breez Yarger had two hits and three RBI, Addison Ames had two hits, and she scored twice and Kyley Wyman had a solo home run. Pam Allen had one hit, and she also reached on a walk and Cara Heintz singled and scored a run.

Clare followed that up with a mercy-style victory in game two, with Lena Renner getting the win, going three innings and giving up zero runs on one hit while striking out four.

Wyman had another big game at the plate, getting four hits, including one home run and four RBI. Yarger also had a three-run home run and Renner, Fritz and Rainn Bryant had two hits apiece. Ames, Olivia Forsberg and Heintz all had one hit each.

On Friday, Clare was at home against Shepherd in more league action. They lost game one 7-5 in extra innings but bounced back to win game two 16-4.

“It was a tough game, the girls battle, we outhit them 10-4,” Kelly said of the game one loss.

Wyman had three hits and one RBI while Ames and Allen had two hits each. Renner had one hit and one RBI and Forsberg added one single.

In game two, Renner got the win, going six innings and allowing four hits.

“Renner did a great job pitching and trusting our defense behind her, it was a good bounce back win for us,” Kelly said. “Getting 25 hits in a doubleheader is good, we just need to clean up our defense and the amount of bases we are giving people, and if we do that, we are going to be a pretty darn good team.”

The offense had Allen get three hits and scored three times while Yarger (four RBI), Heintz (one RBI) and Wyman (one RBI) had one double and one single. Ames also singled twice and drove in a run Fritz had one double and three walks, Bryant had one single and two RBI and Mallorie Louch added one single.

Clare (7-3 overall) was at Gladwin on Tuesday, they head for St. Louis today (Thursday), they host a tournament on Saturday and they host Bullock Creek on Tuesday.
