Clare Man Killed in Collision with Ambulance

On 4/23/2022 at 6:59 p.m., Clare County Central Dispatch received radio traffic of a vehicle running a stop sign and colliding with a Mobile Medical Response Ambulance at the intersection of South Clare Ave and Dover Road, in Grant Township, Clare County. Responding deputies arrived at the scene of the crash and found that a 1999 Chevrolet Corvette that was traveling East on Dover Road and collided with a Mobile Medical Response Ambulance that was traveling North on South Clare Ave. It was determined that once the collision occurred, the Mobile Medical Response Ambulance proceeded to roll over into the field on the northeast side of Dover Road catching fire. Ambulance personnel, Shealyn Spencer and Cheri Filson were able to get of the ambulance after sustaining minor injuries. Both were transported to Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center -Clare for further treatment.

The corvette, being driven by 42-year-old Michael Wardzinski of Clare also came to a rest in the field. Mr. Wardzinski was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Clare County Sheriff's Office and the Michigan State Police reconstruction team.
