The Clare Cross Country teams served as hosts to their annual home invitational on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at Mid-Michigan College. Farwell was one of the teams in attendance as well, in the event that splits up racers by grade.
In the girls’ freshmen race, Clare had four runners. Quinn Drake took first with a 23:44, Charlotte Taylor was third at 32:24, Hosana Evans was fourth with a 40:23 and in sixth was Aaliyah Smith on a time of 44:39.
Neither team had a runner in the sophomore race, while the junior race featured two from Farwell and one from Clare. The Lady Pioneer runner was Jordyn Maki, who was third with a 33:09. For Farwell, Aubrianna Terrian was first with a 30:06 and Mariah DeGreer was second with a 30:15.
In the senior race, Clare had four runners compete. Sophia Buzzelli was second with a 22:26, Elizabeth Letherer was fourth at 25:12, Rebcca Rubei was fifth with a 29:50 and Olivia Dubay was sixth at 54:50.
For the boys, Clare had four runners in the freshmen race. Hayden Wright-Johns was seventh with a time of 25:00, Mason Somers was eighth at 32:06, Jace Montney ran a 32:18 to come in ninth and Koleton Murdoch was 10th after crossing at 38:28.
The sophomore race featured a trio of Farwell runners. Those were Conner Cousineau who was first with a 21:02, Callen Mogg who was third at 23:40 and Paxton Terrian who was fourth with a 24:26.
They had one runner each in the junior race. Clare had Carter Chapman finish fourth with a 23:10 and Farwell had Easton Brown, who was fifth with a 27:03.
For the seniors, Clare had Connor Schmidt take first on a 20:32 and Joseph Haupt was second at 20:41. Sutton Klaus and Christian Villa-Bilton were third and fourth with close times of 20:42 and 20:43.
Clare returns to action in Shepherd on Wednesday and they’ll run at the Lancer Invitational on Sept. 12. Farwell was at Roscommon on Wednesday; they’ll travel to Houghton Lake on Tuesday and then run again on Sept. 12 in Marion.
