Clare County at 150: History and Stories 1871-2021 Now Available

Posted

Jon Ringelberg’s latest compilation celebrates the 150th milestone the City of Clare and Clare County hit in 2021. Few are in a position to understand the Clare County community as well as Jon Ringelberg. Ringelberg has researched and studied county history and its people as a 35-year member of the Clare County Historical Society. His experiences serving at District Court Judge and synopsizing over 3,500 Clare County Circuit Court legal cases, many of which have been published in the Cleaver, give him an intimate understanding of the people and places in Clare County.

The 279-page compilation titled “Clare County at 150: History and Stories 1871-2021” doesn’t just include Ringelberg’s research. It also includes writing, stories, and research by Tom Sellers (deceased), Robert Knapp, Andy Coulson, Ken Linguar, and William White.

If you’ve ever wondered how Clare got its name or is Clare County really in the center of the lower peninsula all these questions can be answered, or at least pondered. Ringelberg makes no assumptions or takes editorial license with his research. His presentation of information is clear and concise and where there is room for doubt, he lets the reader make up their own mind.

The compilation also highlights past and present Clare County officials. It lists public officials from 1871 to present with photos, if available, of Clare County Judges, Prosecutors, Sheriffs, Clerks and Register of Deeds, Treasurers, Surveyors, and Drain Commissioners.

Clare County at 150 is available at the Clare County Cleaver office in Harrison and at the Clare Union Railroad Depot in Clare and on Amazon. The cost is $15.
