Josh Ward is already familiar with running a business in Harrison and is eager to share his new venture with the community. Ward and his wife, Jennifer, manage Scooter’s Bar and Grill for his father-in-law, Lee Martin. The bar and grill is across the street from Ward’s new business, Auto Guys.
Auto Guys is starting out detailing cars, and Ward has applied for his license to sell and service cars as well. He’s looking forward to offering those services down the road but is focusing on detailing cars for now. Ward plans to obtain his ASE certification to become a licensed mechanic in the state of Michigan.
Ward, along with Rob Walters, has experience detailing cars and they plan to hold a grand opening in January. They also are making minor repairs and fixing up the garage.
Ward gave the Cleaver a tour of his garage where he was currently working on two cars of his own. He is putting two cars owned by his family through restoration.
“My wife’s great-grandmother bought this car new,” Ward said. “It’s a white Gran Torino Elite and it has 99,000 miles on it.”
He plans to restore the Gran Torino to enjoy it, realizing the value wouldn’t be there if he made the car perfect. For now, he’s using the car as a marketing tool of sorts: splitting the car in half and working on one half at a time so customers can see what a good cleaning and detailing can do for a car.
“I can do detailing without a whole of licensing,” he said. “I’m not trying to get rich. I need something to do, and this is my hobby and I enjoy it.
“I still run the bar, that’s still my life. I have to go every day and clean the ice machine. This takes my mind off all of it. When I’m detailing a car, I’m not thinking about anything else except this beautiful lady right here,” he said, gesturing to the Gran Torino.
The best part of Ward’s new business is he gets to hang out in the garage several days a week. He invites you to join him and see what he can do for your vehicle this winter.
“Whenever you clean your car, it looks good, but when I clean your car it looks brand new,” said Ward.
