Alpaca Farm Days Return to Clare County

Posted

HARRISON – Living the Good Life Alpaca Acres opened their gate and arms to the community Saturday, Sept. 28 in celebration of Alpaca Farm Days. A steady stream of visitors made their way around the barn and enclosures to visit with the proprietors Sam and Wendy Keith to learn about alpacas. They also enjoyed the opportunity to get up close and personal with the fluffy, aloof-yet-curious creatures, with some successfully offering some nibbling snacks from the palms of their hands.

Also on the grounds were many vendors who offered everything from alpaca cookies to crafts, needlework creations to personal care products, Amish baked goods, and concessions.

The day featured alpaca fleece carding and yarn spinning, along with weaving demonstrations. Kids were able to enter a coloring contest, as well as decorate their own alpaca cookie [edible paints].

Volunteers from the Clare County Animal Shelter were onsite, as well, seeking adopters for their mighty fine felines.

In all, it was a day filled with not only the love of all things alpaca, but also with a sense of family and community inter-connectedness – things that might seem to be in short supply these days, but which are essential to a quality life.
