2nd Annual Golf Benefit Raises $2,000 for Weekend Backpack Program

The Thirsty Thursday Golf League, Firefly Golf Course, American Legion Post 558 and Dan Dan the Mattress Man joined forces to organize and sponsor the 2nd Annual Vinny Plummer Memorial Golf Outing held Aug. 29. Proceeds from this event were donated to the Clare Area Weekend Backpack Program. 

This year the outing generated a $2,000 contribution.

Last year the program helped 227 children, with $25,000 was spent on backpacks and food.

"We are so appreciative of all of the support that we get from the amazing community!" said Nicole Morrison, program director. “Because of the generosity of our community, we are able to make sure that these kids have adequate food on the weekends."

"We have enough resources in this country that no child should have to go hungry or worry about food," said Legion Representative Kristie Murray.

Special recognition is due to Sarah Athey, General Manager of Firefly Golf Course, for her tireless effort in recruiting golfers, organizing activities and making everyone feel proud to be a part of this Memorial Tribute to Vinny.
