2023 Harrison Street Fair a Jam-Packed Affair

HARRISON – The 17^th Annual Harrison Street Fair, held Aug. 25 and 26, once again drew in visitors from near and far. On They came to see the many Old U.S. 27 Car Tour vehicles that arrived Friday morning, and enjoyed wandering among them while admiring, reminiscing and sharing the special memories that so often are associated with specific vehicles – first car, first date, and the one they drove off into a new life trailing tin cans on strings and bearing a sign that read “Just Married.”

Both Friday and Saturday were also replete with a record number of enthusiastic vendors selling everything from scents, shirts, kitchen wares, needlework and sculptures crafted of found metals. Visitors also enjoyed seemingly nonstop music from DJs and interspersed live performances…and the American Legion’s beer tent. And, of course, the always-enticing food trucks/purveyors and their wafting delicious aromas drew in scads of hungry folk.

Also on hand were representatives of local organization: The Clare County Crazy Quilters were selling tickets for their annual quilt raffle; the Harrison Sportsman’s Club selling raffle tickets for its Oct. 15 drawing for a Browning 20Ga pump shotgun, a Henry Golden Boy .22 LR, or a Buck Bourbon Rack House Blind plus one-year club membership. Harrison Area Chamber of Commerce was promoting its Sept. 16 Home Based Business Expo as well as selling tickets for its Oct. 21 Masquerade Charity Ball.

The Harrison District Library had its doors open to visitors, as well, making available the library’s new History/Genealogy Room which included assistance from Angela Kellogg, support services librarian and local history afficionado.

The Harrison Robotics folks held down the parking lot at the northwest corner of Main and Second streets, with team members demonstrating some of Robot 6642’s capabilities. The booth included the new robot created by the Harrison Middle School team, as well as lots of information about local robotics endeavors. And, speaking of tickets, the team also was selling tickets for its fundraising raffle drawing for a AXIX 500 UTV with Winter SPV Camo (valued at $11,499) to be held Sept. 13 at Trail’s End in Harrison.
