ULDIS PODINS

                Uldis Podins 87 of Harrison went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 23, 2021. Mr. Podins was born July 27, 1934 in Riga Latvia, the son of Valentines Podins and Milda (Thompson) Podins. Mr. Podins graduated from Beecher High School, Flint, Michigan in 1953. Following high school graduation, Uldis enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country. Upon completion of his military commitment, Uldis resumed his education by earning an associate degree from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Uldis retired from Hamady Grocery of Flint after forty-seven years as a Produce Manager. On December 10, 1977, Mr. Podins was united in marriage to LaDauna M. Moore in Genesee County, Michigan. Mrs. Podins preceded Uldis in death on October 13, 1996, after eighteen years of marriage.

                Uldis attended Trinity Christian Life Center-Harrison for many years. He was a member of the Harrison Moose Lodge and Family Center #2235. Uldis enjoyed Listening to his native Latvian music, visiting each of the Michigan Great Lakes, watching various weather channels and studying the weather patterns, listening, watching, and reading Dr. David Jeremiah’s sermons, cheering for his beloved University of Michigan sporting events and grilling and barbecuing for his family.

                Surviving Mr. Podins are his three children; Kenneth Smith of Flint, Michigan, Christina and Keri Tubbs of Gaylord, Michigan and Laurie and Dan Branch of Harrison, 24 grandchildren, and 64 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren, one sister, Velta and Michael DiGenova of Arizona, two nieces; Karen (Todd) and Julie (Tim), one nephew, Jeff (Rhonda) DiGenova. Mr. Podins also was preceded in death by his parents, one son, John Sybert and one daughter in-law, Robin Smith.

                Celebration of Life services for Mr. Podins will be held Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, 165 West Oak Street, Harrison with Pastor Jeffrey Brown officiating. A time of gathering will take place on Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Inurnment will be in Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Harrison.
