Tom Roland Plichta age 82 of Harrison, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 at: The Niche Aging of Clare. Tom was born Tuesday, June 23, 1942 in Ann Arbor, Michigan the son of Wilma Elizabeth (Steinke) Plichta and Robert Duffy Plichta. Tom was a graduate of Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, Ann Arbor in 1960. Following his graduation, Tom was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. Soon after serving his country, Tom began his twenty-five-year career with the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in the City of Ann Arbor. After retiring from the Postal Service, Tom visited Harrison with some friends and made the decision to make Harrison his forever retirement home. In 2002, Tom moved to the City of Harrison from Ann Arbor.

Mr. Plichta, affectionately known to his neighbors as “Neighbor Tom” was very passionate, precise and articulated in his yard manicuring skills. Never was a blade of grass or a shrub out of place. When it came to spring and fall leaf season, Tom was the first to have the leaves gathered daily and placed at the road for pickup. When winter approached with snow and ice, he made sure to have his drive and walk neatly cleaned and cleared, usually before many were awake and moving. On Sundays in the fall, Tom would proudly display and fly on his porch, the University of Michigan flag, and the television would be on and ready to watch and cheer for his U of M football team. Tom enjoyed walking to downtown Harrison daily to purchase any needed supplies, and gather his mail, except for Friday’s, he drove to the grocery store to shop. In the early 2000’s, Tom brought home a new tenant by the name of Riley, or later nicknamed “Brown Dog”, she quickly became his best friend and loyal confidante. Tom and Riley were inseparable and truly best friends.

Surviving Tom are his three nieces; Leslie Frischman and husband Gary of The Villages of Florida, Marni Joseph and husband Rich of Westerly, Rhode Island and Heidi Wyman and husband Tom of Sterling, Massachusetts plus three great-nieces and four great-nephews, plus close friends and neighbors. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Plichta.
