Tera Price Memorial Scholarship 2023 Awards

Kirtland Community College

The 2023 awardees for the Tera Price Memorial Scholarship are Gracie Caverson and Corrina Gourde. The scholarship is for surgical technology students and in honor of Tera Price, a Harrison graduate. Price was a graduate of the Kirtland Community College Surgical Technology Program and lost her battle with cancer in 2019.

Price’s longtime partner, Bob Stewart, funds the scholarship each year, and his eventual goal is to create an endowment for the scholarship. The scholarship started in 2019 at $500, and now awards $1,000 for two students.

In addition to honoring Price’s passion for her job as a surgical technician, Stewart has toured the surgical education facility and been impressed.

“It’s amazing,” Stewart said. “The instructors up there are amazing. They do a really good job.”

Comments of gratitude from the scholarship award winners illustrate what a difference the scholarship makes.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude in receiving the Tera Price Memorial Scholarship,” said Gracie Calverson. “The funds will graciously be applied to the cost of my Surgical Tech program. I am very excited about this new chapter in my life and attending such a wonderful school in Northern Michigan were I grew up. My future goals are to get my foot in the door of a Trauma/Surgical room and then back to get certified as a First Assistant. I do aspire to possibly going further with schooling but am anxious to complete this program first and see where it leads me.”

Corrina Gourde was also grateful for her award and said, “I was very excited to be chosen a recipient of the Tera Price Memorial Scholarship. I am writing to thank you for your generous financial support toward my education in Surgical Technology. I enrolled at Kirtland Community College, looking to expand my education, pursue a rewarding career in health science. I am excited to make a difference in the lives of others and look forward to what the future has in store. Receiving this scholarship not only helps financially but is a confidence boost as well! Kirtland Foundation members are there to support and encourage others to reach for their goals. Now, I get to be part of the mission. I grew up in poverty, faced financial burdens, worked hard, stayed determined, and always been a dreamer. Throughout my growing experiences, I have learned the expression to value a dollar. I am truly grateful to represent the Tera Price Memorial Student Scholarship. It means to much to me that others would invest in my education and alleviate some of the financial burden to better concentrate on my education. I have always had a passion for learning and in healthcare you get to learn something new every day. After graduation, I plan to seek employment working at larger hospitals in Michigan. Working alongside other fellow Kirtland graduates and inspire other future students.”
