Sportsman Club Hosts Haunted Forest & Trunk or Treat

Posted

Witches, zombies, skeletons and wolves are only some of the creatures visitors will encounter at the Haunted Forest, a first-time event sponsored by the Harrison Sportsman’s Club.

The Halloween haunting, which involves navigating a scary trail in the woods behind the club, will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26. The event is free, though donations are welcome.

“We felt that the property would be the perfect setting for some scary hauntings, especially since a trail already exists,” said Guy Silva, the club’s president. The trail is used part of the year as the club’s 3D archery course.

“We also thought it would be a welcome holiday activity for the community,” he said.

There are also some club members who are very enthusiastic about Halloween, according to event organizer Kathy Silva, who has been scouring stores for the past year to stock up on all the spooky costumes and props needed to set up the perfect frightening experience.

“We expect this event will be fun for children and adults alike,” Silva said, though she does recommend young children be accompanied by an adult.

Visitors will navigate the haunted forest in small groups, led by a guide who will assure none of the monsters and mummies along the trail are missed.

The Harrison Sportsman’s Club sponsored its first Halloween event, a Trunk or Treat, last year. The event was well-attended and will be repeated this year in the club’s parking lot from 5:30-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. In addition to candy treats and some creatively crafted Halloween-themed trunks, there will be some light refreshments for visitors. Be sure to dress in costume for this event.

Costumes are not recommended for the Haunted Forest, but visitors are encouraged to wear proper shoes for walking the trail.

“We are excited about both of these events and are looking forward to making Halloween extra special this year for the community,” Kathy Silva said. “Everything from treats to hauntings.”

The Harrison Sportsman’s Club is located at 3704 N. Harrison Ave.
