Spikehorn’s Wildlife Park Featured on Television Program ‘Mid-Michigan Remembers’

Posted

While there is always a lot of interest in the life of John E. Meyers, Harrison’s own Spikehorn, the new television program on QTV from Delta College focuses on forgotten stories of people and their experiences from not so long ago.

Spikehorn’s Wildlife Park will be featured in Episode 1 of ‘Mid Michigan Remembers’ airing in September along with Dr. Wilke Drake, Country Doctor and first-person accounts of attending one-room schoolhouses in mid-Michigan. Additional episodes are in production.

Narrated by Angela Kellogg, local historian and editor of the Clare County Cleaver the Spikehorn segment will take one back to the days before highways when travelers drove down two-lane roads through small towns.  Roadside attractions were popular, and Spikehorn’s Wildlife Park was one of the most colorful.  A generation of families stopped by to see bears and other wildlife, purchase souvenirs and of course, see and hear tales from the bear man of Michigan, Spikehorn Meyers.  The television program will feature the current Spikehorn display at the Clare County Historical Society Museum and photos, postcards, and memories from visits to Harrison.

The second Mid-Michigan Remembers will be airing in March of 2020 with four new segments.
