Seven Month Investigation Results in Sex Crimes Arrest

CLARE, MICH.  In February of 2020 the Michigan State Police Mount Pleasant Post was requested to assist with an investigation involving the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old boy.  The suspect was identified as a 49-year- old Houghton Lake man.

This assault reportedly took place in Clare County, Michigan. Further investigation revealed multiple other attempts to commit sexual assault against other young males within Michigan and evidence the man possessed and manufactured child pornography. The Michigan State Police Mount Pleasant Post conducted the investigation and identified an additional victim.

On 10/1/2020, the Houghton Lake man was charged with one count of CRIMINAL SEXUAL CONDUCT-FIRST DEGREE (PERSON UNDER THIRTEEN), five felony counts of CHILD SEXUALLY ABUSIVE ACTIVITY-AGGRIVATED, five felony counts of COMPUTERS-INTERNET -COMMUNICATING WITH ANOTHER TO COMMIT CRIME, and two counts of HABITUAL OFFENDER – SECOND OFFENSE NOTICE.

The case is being prosecuted by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office. The MSP Mt. Pleasant Post was assisted by the Clare Police Department, the MSP Houghton Lake Post, the MSP Computer Crimes Unit, and the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect has not been arraigned on the aforementioned charges at the time of this media release.  No further information available at this time.
