RUSSELL HOWARD MATHEWS

Russell “Russ” Howard Mathews age 74 of Harrison passed peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital, Saginaw, Michigan. Russell was born the son of Robert S. Mathews Sr. and Edith A. (Rawson) Mathews on April 9, 1948, at the family home in Hamilton Township, Harrison. Russell graduated from Harrison Community Schools in 1966.

Soon after his graduation, Russ was drafted for the Vietnam War, and honorably served his country in the United States Army. After serving his country, Russ was united in marriage to Ms. Sharron A. Smith on April 18, 1970, in Harrison.

Mr. Mathews earned his Heavy Truck Master Mechanic degree from Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Michigan.

Russ had resided his entire lifetime in Harrison. He was employed with Fisher Contracting of Midland, Michigan as a Heavy Truck Mechanic for over thirty years, and five years with Waste Management Corporation also as a Heavy Truck Mechanic.

Russ was passionate about his deer hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed grooming his yard, pond, and property, as well as spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving Mr. Mathews is his loving wife and best friend of fifty-two years, Mrs. Sharron A. Mathews of Harrison, two children: Julie Lobdell and husband Chris of Harrison and Russell Mathews and wife Marcy of Midland, four grandchildren, four siblings: Robert Mathews Jr. of Harrison, Judy Anderson and husband Ken also of Harrison,

husband Ken also of Harrison, Cindy Cuddie and husband Jerry of Gladwin, Michigan and Martin Mathews of Coleman, Michigan, plus many nieces, nephews, extended family members and his two beloved fur babies: Dolly and Abby. Mr. Mathews was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gary Mathews and two sisters-in-law: Betty Mathews and Dorothy Mathews.

Military Honors and graveside inurnment services for Mr. Mathews will be held at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison.
