Roy Carl German

Roy Carl German, age 75, of Harrison, MI, passed away peacefully at Ascension Providence Hospital, Rochester, MI, on July 27, 2022. 

Roy was born January 1, 1947, son of Doris (Green) & Carl German. He moved to Harrison from Fenton, MI, at the age of 10 with his family. He was active in Boy Scouts in his youth (was inducted into the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow), he also worked with the scouts when he was an adult. In high school he was on the football team where he played both offensive and defensive tackle positions and earned his Varsity letters, he was also a member of the high school’s wrestling team and baseball team. After graduating from Harrison High School, he attended Ferris State University with a full ride scholarship for football. On October 9, 1967, he was drafted in the army during the Vietnam War and served in Germany. After three years of service, he was honorably discharged on August 31, 1970, his rank then was Specialist 5 which today is Sergeant. He worked for Medar, Inc., where he traveled as an electronic technician/field rep to different auto factories across the country. He retired early due to declining health. He loved to travel, especially fishing trips to Canada. He enjoyed going to bluegrass concerts, listening to classic country music and old radio broadcasts, and watching old westerns. He enjoyed family holiday gatherings at the homestead in Harrison, especially playing euchre.  He helped coach little league in the 1970s, was a member on a bowling league at Snowbird lanes for many years (on April 2, 1980, he scored 206). He also enjoyed deer hunting and trap shooting.

Roy is survived by two brothers, Floyd (Sue) German of Raleigh, NC, and Joe (Sheila) German of Coleman, MI; three sisters, Beverly (InSung) Lee of Harrison, MI, Bonnie (Bruce) Dunham of Lansing, MI, Donna (Earl) Schoenhals of Harrison, MI; many nieces and nephews; and close friend, Clint Adkins. Preceding him in death are his parents, Doris & Carl German and sister Evelyn. Our brother Roy will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services for Roy will be held at Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel & Cremation Service on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Tippin officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. A Luncheon will follow the committal service at the Masonic Lodge. The family will receive friends at the chapel the day of the service from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
