Richard Lewis Lawrence, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Harrison, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022. Visitation will be from 3-7p.m. Friday, August 12 at Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel, Harrison. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial: Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Harrison, Michigan with Military Honors.

Dick was born December 12, 1938, the son of Holden & Betty (Carpenter) Lawrence in Flint, Michigan. He was raised in Mt. Morris Township, surrounded by family and friends. Dick graduated from Mt. Morris High School with the class of ’57. On July 6, 1957, he married Dona Joyce Vader in Mt. Morris. Dick was a heavy equipment operator, working for Dewitt Excavating, Johnson-Wood, Fessler & Bowman, and Barkman for many years. He served 27 years on the Mt. Morris Township Volunteer Fire Department where he was promoted to Asst. Chief in 1978. In 1984, they moved to Harrison where Dick continued working construction, this time at Ecklin’s. He became a member of the John J. Carlson Lodge No. 436 F. & A. M. and was Worshipful Master from 1988-1989.

Dick always had Ford Trucks, John Deere tractors, Ski-doos, and Gold Wings. He and Dona joined GWRRA and traveled all over the United States. They wintered in Webster, Florida for over 20 years. Dona died August 6, 2011.

Survivors include his daughter, Amy (Bruce) Reynolds of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Dr. Nicole McCleese (Steve) of Lansing, Michigan, Dr. Carrie McCleese (Brandon) of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Sara (Eric) Hubbell of Marion, Iowa and Andrew (Brianna) Reynolds of Marion, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Lola & Cohyn Hubbell, Henry & Benjamin Hurst, and Roz & Eric Arch; and two sisters, Jean James of Cullman, Alabama and Janet (John) Cronin of Whittemore, Michigan.

Also surviving are his partner, Beverly Kripa of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and her daughters, Lisa (Mike) Buehl of Drummond, Tennessee, Jamie (Bob) Chandler of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and Danielle (Jim) Willoughby of Shepard, Michigan; grandchildren, Jessica White, Michael Buehl, Makayla (Kendra), Danny and Hope Chandler, Sawyer and Faith Willoughby and Tatum Buehl; and one great-grandson, Liam Buehl.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dona; daughter, Lynn; brothers-in-law, Ronald Vader, Gerald Vader, Bud James, and Robert Theriault; son-in-law, Steve McCleese; sisters-in-law, Janet Gluff, Joy Vader, and Barbara “Joan” Theriault.
