Red Cross and Buffalo Wild Wings celebrate work of Michigan volunteer heroes

Portion of March sales support lifesaving mission of Red Cross

DETROIT (March 1, 2021) – Despite the challenges of the last year, more than 110,000 local volunteer heroes carried out the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross in Michigan. From donating blood to responding to local house fires, Red Cross volunteers and blood donors saved lives and provided critical disaster support in communities around the state.

This March, the Red Cross of Michigan and Buffalo Wild Wings are teaming up to celebrate these heroes and the lifesaving work of the Red Cross. On March 3, 10% of sales at Buffalo Wild Wings locations across Michigan will go to support the mission of the Red Cross. Throughout the month, customers can choose to round up their bill and all proceeds will benefit the Red Cross of Michigan.

“Through the trials of the last year, our local Red Cross volunteers and blood donors stepped up to care for their neighbors,” said Regional Chief Executive Officer Mary Lynn Foster. “From emergencies like family home fires to critical blood shortages, our local heroes were there to help. For nearly 80 years, U.S. presidents have proclaimed March as Red Cross Month to recognize people giving back through its lifesaving mission — which is powered by more than 90% volunteers.”

The work of the Red Cross persisted across Michigan through the pandemic. The Red Cross assisted more than 1,200 families in response to local disasters, including house fires; helped an estimated 5,016 military members, veterans and their families; and trained nearly 27,952 community members in health and safety from July 2019 through June 2020. In Michigan, approximately 192,595 pints of blood and more than 42,623 units of platelets were donated through the Red Cross from generous donors.
