Plaque Commemorates County’s 150th Year Milestone

Posted

HARRISON – Clare County Historical Society members Jon Ringelberg and Lee Wixom visited the June 16 meeting of the Clare County Board of Commissioners, where they presented the board with a plaque commemorating Clare County’s sesquicentennial. It was 150 years ago, on March 16, 1871, that Clare County was officially established as a county.

The plaque marking those 150 years is part of the Historical Society of Michigan’s Milestone Awards program.

The July/August 2021 issue of Michigan History magazine will feature a story on Clare County (page 64), its landmark anniversary, along with some description of the county’s journey from 1871 to 2021.
