Roderick B Curtiss was born on October 12, 1938 in Lake George, Michigan. He passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Rod was known for his warm heart, friendly nature, and a smile that could brighten any room. He loved playing golf, fishing, watching sports, going on car rides, sightseeing, and most of all, spending time socializing with friends and family. Rod graduated from Farwell High School in 1957, before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps and beginning his training, at Camp Pendleton, in California. He served proudly from July 1957 until March 1959. Following his service, Rod began a long and dedicated career at National Steel and Shipbuilding Company, in San Diego. During his 40-year career, he served various roles, before retiring in 1999. In 1965, Rod married the love of his life, Toni (Wagner), and together they built a beautiful life in San Diego, California, where they raised their three daughters, Lisa, Toni Sue, and Judy. In retirement, Rod and Toni moved to Harrison, Michigan, where he enjoyed his later years surrounded by the beauty of nature and the love of his family. Rod was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished his family deeply and took great joy in his three daughters, eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Rod’s kindness, laughter, and love will forever be treasured by those who knew him. Rod is survived by his wife, Toni Curtiss of Harrison, daughter Toni Sue Ziegler (Daniel) of Harrison; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Curtiss of Farwell and Sterling (Kathy) Curtiss of Florida; one sister, Marlene Grix of Harrison; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Rod was predeceased by parents, J. Sterling and Opal (Dexter) Curtiss; two brothers, John and Patrick; seven sisters, Eunice, Teesil, Florence, Juanita, Paddy, Judy, and Beth; two daughters, Lisa and Judy; and two grandchildren, Brianna and Edward. Rod’s legacy of love, joy, and friendship will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
